RC cars to feature at event in Selkirk

An upcoming event to be held in the Scottish Borders will feature RC cars, it has been revealed. Due to take place on Friday July 8th, Selkirk Youth Day will be staged at the town’s swimming pool and caravan park and fans of nitro RC cars may be among the visitors.

Set to get underway at 13:00 BST, the celebration has been organised in response to complaints about youngsters and anti-social behaviour in the area. Those who attend will get the chance to try out a range of activities.

As well as getting to grips with RC cars, they will be able to test out an inflatable football pitch provided by the Scottish FA, an interactive wall, dance mats and a number of provisions supplied by Borders Sport and Leisure Trust.

The type of remote controlled vehicles that will be available has not been specified, so they could be nitro RC cars or different versions.

Meanwhile, as well as the fun and games, there will be a more serious side to the day. A number of organisations that run projects to help young people will be present, including Face2Face Borders and Victim Support. Organisers hope this will provide children with the chance to get information concerning the services available to help them.

The event will be open to 11 to 16-year-olds who reside in the Selkirk High School catchment area.

Following the goings on of the afternoon, there will be a swim disco and then, later still, an evening disco.

Of course, those who want to make use of remote controlled cars do not have to rely on public events like this. Such items are now easily accessible in high street shops and via the web. And, because the devices range in type and sophistication, it is possible to course cheap versions as well as the more expensive ones.
