Doctor Who props feature at school event

Not every school child gets the privilege of bringing famous TV props in to show their peers but one girl from Cambridgeshire recently did precisely this. Bottisham Community Primary School held an unofficial Doctor Who event.

Megan Aldred’s father, Graham, works in the BBC stage props department and was able to bring along a host of creations used in the science fiction series, the Cambridge News reports.

Among the items showcased at the gathering were a Tardis, Dalek, Cyberman and Ood.

Showing their interest, hundreds of individuals flocked to the school to see the items and they faced a Dalek in the question and answer session.

Commenting on the event, chairman of the school’s parent teachers association Vicky Crown said: “It was a fantastic day and we had about 500 people come along. Some of them are huge Doctor Who fans. Graham works in the BBC props department and is allowed to borrow the monsters once a year for a charity of his choice.

“We had a Q&A with a Dalek, we had an Ood and a Santa Claus from the show as well as a Host and we did try to get Louise Jameson, who played Tom Baker’s companion Leela when he was Doctor Who, but she couldn’t make it.”

Ms Crown went on to note that the event was a huge success and enabled the school to raise £2,000. The money will be used to build a kitchen for the children to use.

Doctor Who is renowned for having particularly iconic stage props. The show, which is listed in the Guinness World Records as being the longest-running science fiction show in the world, depicts the adventures of a time-travelling humanoid alien known as the Doctor. He explores the universe in a time machine named the TARDIS. Its popularity shows no sign of waning.
