There are strong arguments on both sides of the debate as to whether or not pets should be kept indoors. Letting cats out to roam and hunt can be very beneficial for their self-esteem, whilst allowing a dog free range of your garden can be a great boost to their health and general happiness. No one wants to be cramped up inside a house all day, every day and our pets are no different. However, letting them out can come at a price.
Should you not have a sufficiently large garden, it may seem that letting dogs roam the streets will be okay. However, whilst there are dangers, you are also allowing them to go and root for food, and this alone can be a cause of much ill health. A puppy and even full grown dogs will need very specific dog nutrition if you wish to keep them as healthy as possible. The added benefits of a great deal of extra exercise will almost certainly be counteracted by the huge reduction in the nutrients that your dog is getting from food. On top of this, dogs on the prowl can simply be extremely troublesome.
Therefore, it is always wise to be with your dog when you let it past the confines of house and garden. And it is not just your puppy that can have problems when it comes to going outside.
For those with cats, roads can be extremely dangerous. For those living near busy roads, the chances of your pet being hit by a car can be surprisingly high. Therefore, again, it may be far safer, and healthier, if you keep your pet inside.
Of course there are many who will suggest that people with such restrictions simply shouldn’t own a pet. However, so long as your dog gets the right dog nutrition and is walked regularly, and that cat has a great deal of toys to play with – and gets a huge amount of fuss from you too – then such environments can be equally as okay for pets. Just make sure you know the facts before you decide to get that cat or dog.
