Remote control helicopters are popular in many countries around the world and the US is no exception, as a recent event demonstrated.
According to reports in the Green Bay Press Gazette, an annual Mayor’s Kids’ Day featured more than one RC helicopter. Local police lieutenant William Bongle brought a number of miniature aircraft along to show youngsters at the celebration in Green Bay.
Such was the popularity of the devices that they were used until all the items’ batteries were drained.
The event was the ninth such Kids’ Day and, as well as getting to enjoy the sights and sounds of remote control helicopters, youngsters benefited from a range of activities. For example, they were handed wrist bands which let them into swimming pools, cinemas, libraries, botanical gardens, museums and other attractions located around the city, which is situated in the state of Wisconsin.
Hundreds of youngsters took part in the celebrations. Commenting on the day, Mayor Jim Schmitt, who started the event in 2003, said: “I take so much pleasure in seeing kids having fun. They get to see many things that they might not be able to afford.”
Meanwhile, parent Josel Gonzalez noted that his favourite aspect of day was seeing his youngsters make a number of trips to the inflatables set up for children to jump on. He added: “We went bowling this morning and now we’re going to go to the museum.”
Also remarking on her experiences, Abby Brezinski, who attended the festivities with her two-year-old daughter, stated: “We just like that it’s a family event where kids can have fun and play. And it’s free.”
