Many people make it well into adulthood without ever having taken a driving test. These days, with the world being such a small place in terms of both business and pleasure, it often seems that almost everyone needs to drive just to make sure that they have as many options open to them as possible. But do you really need to drive, or will public transport be enough?
Well, firstly, it is worth remembering that the cost of driving is higher than it has ever been. Meanwhile, government incentives have meant that even if public transport isn’t cheap as such, it is certainly affordable. However, our public transport industry is much maligned (and in many ways with good reason compared to our European counterparts) and this can put many off.
Then there is the worry about getting items you need at a price you can afford them. Using auction sites, many larger items will need to be picked up or delivered, and using ordinary delivery services such as Royal Mail will be out of the question. At the same time, waiting until someone you know is able to help you out can be frustrating or totally impractical.
However, there are ways around almost all of these issues, and public transport might be maligned but it can still be as cost-effective and efficient as driving for many, especially now there are more cars than ever on the road and in turn far more traffic. With many supermarkets offering a delivery service, shopping can also be taken care of and even getting those important items from A to B can be solved simply by contacting the right delivery services.
It is actually usually cheaper to get a designated professional delivery service to deliver or collect the larger items you buy online, especially when you look on sites that help you find companies offering their services at reduced rates.
So, whilst it may seem easier to drive, if you want to save money and avoid the frustration of traffic, it might actually be easier not to.
