Will a Lift Harm the Look of Your Building?

Whether you are looking into a new build or renovating an old building, if the result will see members of staff or the public using the building, then current legislation says that it must be accessible to everyone. With the possible exception of specific listed buildings whose internal structures cannot be changed, if you have multiple floors that people may need to access then having either a passenger lift or simply a disability lift is going to be integral.

However, if your plans are to create a stylish new building or to take an existing building back to its original traditional look then having a lift may seem somewhat incongruous. With newer buildings, exceptionally attractive modern lifts should easily be able to fit the aesthetic, but with older buildings or even simply modern buildings aiming for that rustic and traditional look, finding something that doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb could be hard.

However, this is only if you look for the usual types of passenger or disability lifts. Not only can many lift solutions be created in a bespoke manner to fit in with the aesthetics of the building as effectively as possible, but for smaller distances a platform lift can be used if people will only need to move between certain levels rather than between floors.

The benefit here is that the right platform lift will not even have to look like a lift at all. Many such lifts can take the form of staircases that simply transform into lifts at the touch of a button. This way, until such a lift is needed, it will not even have to seem like you have one.

Even the largest traditional buildings can have lifts placed in areas where they may not even be noticed and so long as you speak to the right companies you will be able to find that you can meet current legislation without worrying about harming the look of your building one little bit.
