Climbing frames have long been a favourite among children. As well as enabling them to burn off some energy, they are also a good way of encouraging youngsters to use their imaginations. These days, many homes feature such constructions in their gardens and they also remain popular in public areas such as parks.
One place that is set to benefit from new climbing frames is Dinton Pastures. The country park, which is located in the borough of Wokingham in Berkshire and is 335 acres in size, is to get a £500,000 adventure play park, the Maidenhead Advertiser reports.
The initiative is part of an effort to boost visitor numbers.Indeed, those behind the project hope they will be able to double the number of individuals who make their way to the attraction. It total, the scheme is set to take five years to roll out and one of those behind the developments is cabinet member for the environment at Wokingham Borough Council Councillor Gary Cowan.
He noted that as well as large climbing frames, there will be rope bridges hoisted between trees. The local official added: “It is going to be a lot more than a playground. The aim is to try and improve the visitor experience for everyone. The play area would have all sorts of climbing frames and rope bridges and elements built in through the trees.”
Meanwhile, there will also be a new toilet block built at the park’s Dragonfly Cafe and additional money will be spent on training and equipment at the Black Swan lake multi-activity centre. According to Councillor Cowan, the park, which currently attracts around half a million visitors a year, will be able to double this figure in five years. The site is popular for a range of activities, including sailing, diving and fishing.
