There are many different ways to get yourself a cheap tariff that is perfect for you. For those on contract, when it comes time to renew, it will often simply be a case of haggling. It may seem at odds with our culture to haggle, but when it comes to phone contracts you are very rarely going to be offered the best contract straight off the bat. Whatever they offer you, by simply suggesting that you are able to get the same elsewhere for cheaper, you will almost certainly find that their ‘best price’ can be bettered.
It is also wise to try and make the tariff you are on as bespoke as possible. For instance, if you are finally offered a very good price for a certain number of minutes and texts, but know that you are going to use far more texts than minutes, you are almost certainly going to be able to get them to raise the text allowance and drop the number of minutes. Ultimately, they are not going to want to lose your custom and a bit of polite cheekiness, as well as standing your ground, can go a long way.
However, it is not just contract phones that can see you shopping around for tariffs. With the majority of networks, pay as you go offers will be very rigid. However, by swapping your normal phone for a sim free iPhone or any of the many sim free android phones on the market, you can simply switch from one network to another any time one has a particularly good offer on.
Buying a sim free iPhone is probably going to work out at a very similar price as buying an ordinary one, but by having no tie to a specific network you will save a great deal of money through capitalising on monthly offers and changes in what is available to you.
So for those on contract, make sure you haggle, and for those who are not, make sure you choose sim free android phones over ordinary ones.
